Browsing Duo is on a distinguished road
Again, many thanks for all the great suggestions for our Christmas feast. And if there's a recipe anyone wants to share, this thread's a good place. Last June, on our first Charleston visit, I had shrimp at the Wreck over on Mount Pleasant and realized that I had not tasted real shrimpy shrimp in at least twenty years. What passes for shrimp up our way is Imposter Shrimp from Whoknowswhere made out of Whoknowswhat. (Had those boiled peanuts for the first time too--as addictive as crack must be). Later tried deep fried peanuts where you're supposed to eat the shells!!!! (unless it's some kind of joke people pull on Yankees) over at Mike's Peanuts at Marion Square. That was a once in a lifetime experience! Ate at Jestine's kitchen, too, and had some great catfish there--and pickles--and grits and . . . well, it's a good thing I did a lot of walking during our Charleston stay so I wouldn't take back the extra lbs. on the plane. Well, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good feast!

cream cheese in grits? hmmm...

I'll trade grits recipes. Mine is kind of upscale, but worth it.
I use organic chicken stock & finish with 1/2 & 1/2.

If New Hampshire is down, sharp cheddar goes in; but hey have to do the stirring...

We always have oyster dressing with Christmas dinner also. I don't have the recipe memorized but I'll post it when I get home if anyone's interested.

I was just thinking about oyster stuffing/dressing. Thank goodness I haven't finished shopping for Thanksgiving yet.

Cindy's Seafood Stand, (all natural) on John's Island has prepared oyster stuffing to go.
They also do a real oyster roast over wood on Saturdays around 6pm.
