Hi
Just would like to ask any retired military family if they know any thing about Lake City area what the taxes like and is south carolina very taxe friendly to retired people and I am a vet is there any va clinic and good hospital out there .Thanks

There are VA hospitals in charleston and in columbia, neither are convenient to Lake City I'm afraid. You may need to rethink if health care is a priority.

Social Security benefits taxed for federal purposes are not subject to tax in South Carolina. Code Section 12-6-1120(4). One of the reasons SC attracts so many retirees.

you may qualify for property tax exemptions when you buy, I'm sure there is a realtor out there with that info.

My brother travels from Myrtle Beach to the VA Hospital in Charleston. He says the care is very good.

Ive also have been thinking of retiring to S.Carolina, how would the cost of living differ between Charleston and Beaufort ? i have heard Beaufort is becoming a new retirement "MECCA" , could anyone steer me toward some information on retiring in s.c.
