Dustinw82, you mention Mt Pleasant. Are there certain areas of Mt Pleasant that you recommend? What I have seen looks very nice, but doesn't seem very walkable. Is is all developments or is there a town center?

Thanks again for taking the time to give your thoughts!
Mt. Pleasant zip codes are 29464 and 29466. Very family friendly with great schools, but doesn't have the best "walkability." Park West comes first to mind and has primary schools and a recreation center within the neighborhood. You find homes here under $300k, but the pickings are slim. There are other good neighborhoods too though...

Thanks everyone! This has been helpful. We are getting so excited for our upcoming visit! We have found a place to stay for part of our trip in Mt P, so we can get a feel for the area. I guess we'll spend time driving around Wst Ashley. I have a million new questions for you...
How does zoning for schools work? It seems that Mt Pleasant Academy has a very good reputation. Is there an application process/ waiting list for public schools? Any idea of how much time in advance I need to be applying would be really helpful. We would like to move as a family, but I'm wondering if I need to come earlier to make sure my son can start school on time. (he just turned 1, so it's possible that I am being totally neurotic:-)Can we just opt to bring our son to our choice of public school or do we need to live within a certain district? If we have to be within boundaries for given schools, how do we determine where those boundaries are? I guess a good realtor would steer us in the right direction. Anyone know a great realtor that really listens?
Okay that is a lot for one post.
Thanks again for your advice.
