Early May through early September = don't even think about going outside weather. Forget trimming the bushes and get a lawn guy or riding lawn mower. It's stupid hot and humid outside.
No, it was a very, very mild summer here this year. Not normally this cold.
It definitely has been unseasonably cool or last year was unseasonably hot/humid. My son had soccer camp last summer and it was 112/humid....but I haven't seen that kind of heat this year or even long stretches without a break. It has been a LOVELY summer. The heat/humidity also didn't pick up until later in the season. If it wasn't for all the rain, it would be ideal....although it has dried out a bit as the summer has winded down.
Refer to that graph a few posts back. Charleston most certainly does have humidity year round! See that big blue thing to our east, known as the Atlantic Ocean? As long as that is there, we will have humidity.
Consider this as well: As humidity has a way of making hot days seem hotter (heat index), it also has a way of making our cold mornings feel colder. 15 degrees in low humidity in the Upstate feels more tolerable than 32 & humid here.
this has been a gorgeous summer--probably as good as many places in the east coast or midwest overall.
and in my mind, the weather is awesome from october to june or so. sometimes there are wide temperature swings, but i tend to think of most winter days as 50-ish, with some high 30s, mid-40s thrown in nighttimes. imo, perfect weather. maybe san diego is better for how moderate it is year round, but i like the variation here for sure.
It isn't humid all year, but even in the winter, it's not exactly a dry cold... it's different. You'll just have to experience it. But yes, there are distinct season .
I don't think of May - September as do not go outside weather... then again I'm the person training for a marathon in the months of June, July, and August . But, most summer days you definitely want to find something indoors to do between the hours of 10-3.
It was a very mild summer here. The mildest I've felt in a LONG time. I think the rain helped, but not a single 100 degree day (let's hope we don't have any...).
