yes there are macalan, you can get a lyme like disease here to but it usually doesn't include fever

do a search on the cdc's site and you can find info on it

sounds like he has something else going on though, they do a lower GI for infection etc?

Something is going around like crazy here.

I have cold symptoms, I haven't been sick since January 2011... my husband had it (usually when he gets sick, I don't...) and I've talked to tons of others who are sick.

I'm very glad your husband is getting treated. You have to push doctors, sometimes I'm convinced Western medicine wants to keep us a little sick so we keep coming back for more appointments and treatments...

Depends. As I type this my husband sleeps in his hospital bed beside me. He has been here now 6 days & it has been rocky. The headaches are still severe, the temps still spike up to 103 & now he has pneumonia.

The supposed key to a quicker recovery is getting Doxy right away. But the docs now think it may not be RMSF but some horrific virus which just has to run it's course.

Whatever it is, it is horrible to see a loved one go through. Other than running home to feed & walk the dog & give her her meds, I am here with him checking things, talking to the docs, pouring over daily lab tests, pushing for brain MRIs, etc.

You really have to advocate - hospitals are short staffed & although they do a good job, no one cares as much as family.

I'm so sorry you guys are going through this. And you are correct, you do have to advocate for your loved one. I wonder if it would help to call the airline and ask if any diseases were reported from passengers that were flying during that time. Not sure if they'd have that information available or if there is any kind of system in place to report possible exposures to contagious diseases/illness.

I thought of that. It's worth a call. I am also going to call the CDC tomorrow as they track disease outbreaks by state.

So sorry that your husband is going through this (and you). It's one thing to have answers and a clear path to recovering, but another to have unanswered questions.

Yep. That's been the hardest. All of the titers - Babesia, Ehrlichia, Lyme, RMSF, etc. take time to come back - weeks in some cases so you treat with Doxy - too late in this case.

But there are thousands of viruses so they can't test for them all. And there are no meds for viruses.

If there's any takeaway from this it's go to the doctor as soon as you are not feeling well. In some cases it can be the difference between life & death.
