Good to hear. 2017 might be alittle optimistic. Depends on if Coastal Conservation League and friends try their legal slow-down tricks or not.

Way way over due. Yeah, don't trust the Coastal Conservation League; they'd stop Jesus from coming back if they could.

I have a question cause I'm curious as a newcomer to the area ...

Has there ever been a proposal to make 17 an actually highway from Charleston going SW to I95 Exit 33?

It seems to be a natural progression much the same way that I26 joins I95 to the North.

It is a real highway going to I-95. It's U.S. Highway 17. I think what you mean is, will it ever to be up graded to an intrastate highway? I doubt that. It's been in the widing phase for the longest and I doubt it will ever be any wider or put into the intrastate system. The Coastal Conservation League will surly shoot that down because of all the wet lands it crosses.
One thing you'll learn about this area. Any thing new or proposed will always be fought nail and tooth to defeat. People here are very anti growth (which isn't all bad) because in a sense it keeps this area beautiful. But sometimes, most times, they walk around with blinders on.

You can go to charlestoncounty.org
and look for the I-526 updates/news
I printed out a very nice detailed drawing of the plan and it shows exactly where it goes and is very detailed.
Here, I looked it up for you...

It's four lanes all the way to Points South now. From the foot of 526 in West Ashley it takes about an hour to get to 95 @ exit 33.

Hwy 17 will never be an Interstate. It isn't designed that way.
