Glad to answer this.
A 3% rise in one year pales in comparison to an almost 50% drop in 6 years. Most cities would kill (no pun intended) for these crime reductions.

North Charleston, SC
2006:
- 28 Murders
- 81 Rapes
- 544 Robberies
- 828 Assults

2012:
- 13 murders
- 61 rapes
- 212 robberies
- 451 assaults

Im no fan of N Chas, and still would find most of it to be a pretty dangerous place. But, it is drastically improving, as the numbers show.

Some parts of West Ashley are definitely pricey and deservedly so. Close into Charleston is almost always going to be highly desired for instance. Where was the WA house?

I just visited Charleston and fell in love with Wagener Terrace, when we ate at Rutledge cab. We had a gay waiter. I think this is the surrounding area? If not, I would like to know the area with the craftsman style homes and deep, wide front porches. What is the price point for a three bedroom, two bath home? How is the high school? Are there private schools nearby? Don't mean to hijack sorrry lol. That area seemed pretty inclusive. Locals please comment.

Rutledge Cab Co is at the north end of Wagener Terrace. (is that what you are asking?) WT does have a great selection of Craftsman style houses built in the 30's, 40's and 50's mixed in with newer construction. The prices range considerably depending on many factors but you won't find much below $300k and most will be considerably higher. It's a great location!

Okay, what makes it "a great location"? What streets define the neighborhoods? Is WT in N. Chas? N. Chas is different than the city?

WT is downtown,on upper peninsula. Usedto be quite sketchy
and now getting quite pricey. WT and the surrounding hoods are the
most stereotypically "hipster" downtown.

Its does not have a specifically gay friendly rep but the vibe is funky in general
and welcoming of diversity.

That's right, it's in the city of Charleston, not North Charleston. It's close to the hospitals, the citadel and Hampton Park, it's pretty safe, it has some great older houses as you've noted, and "hipster" is probably as good a description of the general population as any.

Wagener Terrace is generally defined by anything North of Hampton Park, South of Sunnyside Ave/Mt Pleasant St, and West of Rutledge Ave. Classic streets in Wagener Terrace are St Margaret St and Grove but there are a lot of good streets there. Houses on the far West edge of the neighborhood have views of the Ashley River.
