I am thinking about moving my family from New Jersey (NYC area) to Charleston. I am a web developer and never had any issue getting a job in the New York City area. I have gotten some conflicting information about the Tech market in Charleston. Can anyone with knowledge about this shed some light? THANK YOU!

Some bookmarks from my collection that might be helpful:

Charleston SC Jobs - Jobs in Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston Digital Corridor
Charleston Works

Also, a search on Dice lists 10 current jobs at present in web development, and Careerbuilder lists 29.

What type of web developing?

I do ASP.net (C#) and SharePoint. There are a ton of jobs listed for that right now. I work mainly for the large government installation down here.

I do full-stack development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL mostly).
I have spoken to a few recruiters / companies in the area and it seems to me that considering the population of Charleston is only around 130,00 - the Tech market is pretty good. New York City has over 8 million. It sounds like the city is making an effort to build the Technology industry. It also seems there are quite a few jobs that require a security clearance.

There are some decent web-dev jobs down here, but they don't pay very much, even considering the lower cost of living here, as opposed to NYC. I thankfully continued teleworking for my existing job in DC when coming down.

If it has a security clearance requirement it's normally a contractor with work (or possible work) from SPAWAR.

In addition to SPAWAR, defense contracting companies (like BAE Systems) also have jobs with security clearance requirements.

PM me your details. I work at one of the better (best IMO) tech companies down here. We are always looking for top talent.
