I am relocating fomr Indiana to Charleston after the closing on our home in 4 weeks. My husband already lives there. The place he rents is pet friendly but would require a 9 month lease. I can live with him and his roommate but we cannot have our 4 dogs with us.
So here are my options:
Stay in a hotel for X weeks to a month with the dogs. (hotel cost only)
Stay with the husband and board the 4 dogs (will have to pay rent and boarding fees)
Find someone who can foster the dogs temporarily.
I am trying to find the most cost effective way to do this move. We will be purchasing a home when the one home sells so transition will be quick but in the mean time, I dont know what is the best all around and WHO is the best to kennel them with. My dogs are our kids (since we are a human kid-free family) so please dont lecture about the number and cost, etc. I know what it costs to raise large dogs and I am ok with all of it. I am just trying to figure out the best option.
Any suggestions/ recommendations would be helpful.
If it was short-term, I highly recommend Hound Hosters. They are a Charleston based company that places your dog with a private host family. I always use them when going out of town because it's so much better than a kennel. I know my dog is placed with a qualified family and his daily routine won't be disrupted and he is constantly supervised. However, the rates would be really expensive in this situation, but at least a heads up for the future.
Have you tried rover.com or Craigslist for foster families?
Okay, I was asking as a general question because there are really no hotels that will allow 4 dogs in a room.
On that list, she has a choice between Charleston Place, which I can already say she won't go with since rooms are $500+ a night. The other option is Motel 6. Sorry, but I don't see her going with Motel 6 but I could be wrong.
She also would need to find an available room and that may not even be possible because of the amount of days she will need a hotel.
She could find an extended stay with 2 adjoining rooms. 2 dogs/1 adult per room. She listed it as an option and asked which option would we do... I would choose the option of staying somewhere with my dogs rather than boarding them.

Sure! He is staying with a family next week and again in June. You can pick a suburb of Charleston you want the family to be located in and most families have fenced-in yards and other dogs for your dog to play with. The company also does background checks and makes sure the host is CPR certified. I will just never place my dog in a kennel and don't mind paying the extra money for him to feel more at home when I'm away.
