I heard Cypress is closing soon. It's always been one of my favorite restaurants. If you haven't been there, go soon!

Many like to look down their nose at Hymans and call it a tourist trap. Well it might well be a tourist trap but it is one of the best tourist taps you will ever go to.

I am from Boston and I am very picky and fussy about seafood. Hymans has the largest and freshest selection available and at a reasonable price.

I'm not sure I would agree with your assessment John. Perhaps if you're a huge fan of your fish fried, but I think there are better places for locally sourced fish.

We took a mid-week break and went into town on Wednesday. It was one of those beautiful Carolina Blue Sky days with low humidity that we will wish for come August.

Had lunch at Magnolia's and it was superb. We shared the Fried Green Tomato Appetizer, lightly breaded and covered with a sweet chutney. I had the Blackened Salmon -- it wasn't the best "blackened" coating I ever had, but it was served over a wonderful butter bean succotash and grits.....quite nice. DW had the Crab Cake, and pronounced it Good (except for the Okra). There are so many interesting things on their Menu that we will be back.

After Lunch, we went to the Gibbes Museum of Art where the featured exhibit was the Nature Artist Mark Catesby. The 18th century painter's work is similar to John James Audubon. In the 1700's there were no cameras to capture these scenes in the wild -- Civilized Society had to rely on paintings to see the local wildlife.

Did you see the review Is Hyman's a tourist trap, a beloved classic, or, perhaps, an institution? | Features | Charleston City Paper

We dined at Graze for lunch. Staff friendly. Seems like a really good local place. Many of the customers local. Good food....and their Happy Hour menu & specials look really good. We'll be back.

I also forgot to post way back about Bistro Toulouse Lautrec. It was really great.

Two local restaurants that are hiding in strip malls. Good little places to go to.

And for me...Magnolias, High Cotton, S.N.O.B., Pooghan's Porch and even my beloved 82 Queen are all tourist traps.

But you know what -- sometimes that's okay.
