Locklear on Coleman is closing We went once and never wanted to go back...not even to give it another try. They are claiming rent increase...I'll say it had something to do with the increasing quality of restaurants in the area......you gotta keep up.
I had a breakfast there one Saturday morning and it looked like something my 6 year old nephew made us. It was a mess and not the good kind. Never went back. And not sad to see them go.

Closer to when we first moved here, someone posted that eventually you start to feel gouged when you go out to eat here. I completely understand that now. $15 for a hamburger just gets to be a bit much at times.
Also, I went to Boone Hall and saw a local poundcake made at John's Island. I bought that along with some strawberries. I didn't check the price on the poundcake because I didn't think it would be that much... it was either 12 or 12.99. I was in shock. Still am. I think this is the perfect example of charging outrageous prices just because it's local. I will be making my own poundcake from now on...can't get much more local than my own kitchen!

By the time the "maker" buys the goods needed to make the cake, paid the bills (ie:electric) and paid an employee or themselves for baking it, delivery person..it is worth every penny. These people don't put out in bulk so it cost more.
It costs to keep money in your community, there is a tremendous value in that. That is a large part in what makes Charleston, Charleston. I am thankful for that.
Yup husband went once to Southend Brewery and won't even go there for a drink now.
We are going to try the Bay Street Biergarten on East Bay this week end for a cold one and apps....anyone have any comments? My son is flying in for the week end to celebrate Mother's Day and I thought he might like it.

Make sure you pour the beer like a bartender. Tilt the glass and make sure you foam out the beginning of the pour. This place was heavily criticized for making you pay for foam.
