I just spoke to HT Houston Northcutt and the one in 6 Mile and both claim they don't sell them, but the helpful baker in 6 Mile said he could bake them to order.
Actually, they are best 'toasted' on a grill. Most of us don't have a grill, as in a diner, so we 'grill' them in a skillet....like you would a grilled cheese.
Oh, and while we are on the subject...the absolute BEST way to do a grilled cheese OR a 'proper' New England hot dog bun is not to butter it prior to putting it in the pan. Nope, use regular MAYONNAISE! Just use mayo once to make a grilled cheese and you will never use butter again.

I never realized the spit top ones were regional until I moved here. I guess I figured that both types could be found everywhere. Who knew!
