Dig South, a 5-day Southeastern tech and culture festival, will be held April 9-13 on the Charleston peninsula.
According to the festival’s website, Dig South will include a 2-day interactive conference, a 2-day tech and creative industry expo, and a 1-day Culturama, an event featuring national touring bands, comedians and craft beer gardens.
The conference and expo will be held at the College of Charleston TD Arena with cultural events at the Charleston Music Hall, The Alley, Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, College of Charleston Cistern Yard and other Downtown locations.
CEO Stanfield Gray started the festival in 2012. Last year’s event had over 3,000 attendees and featured over 500 presenters and conference participants.
This year’s event is expected to host 5,000 people, 650 companies, and 200 presenters and national brands. With the theme mobilize, conference presenters will focus on the mobilization of digital tools and platforms. Topics will cover technology, entrepreneurship, marketing, social media, gaming, and culture.
According to the website, Charleston was chosen as the festival’s home because it’s growing into a hotspot for technical knowledge, especially with software companies like Benefitfocus, Blackbaud, PeopleMatter, Blue Acorn, Levelwing, and BoomTown.
I know that the College of Charleston Dean of Computer Science is very focussed on increasing the Tech presence in Charleston and is constantly working for funding for research projects and working with private companies. He teaches computer programming at many of the local high schools and really works at attracting the best talent in the area.
