The majority of traffic came from the waterfront.
The streets were laid out at the beginning as part of the plan.

In that aspect they both have a grid patten. It was no harder to get around in 1750’s Charleston as it would have been 1750’s Savanna.

There at plenty of bigger metros/cities with no street lights on highways and normal streets.

The 285 Perimeter around Atlanta has no lights.

We can hold ourselves to a higher standard than that. That's 3rd world nonsense.

526 had lights in North Chas, but they're not lit. That's even worse than putting them up in the first place.

That's a state issue. N.char complained about it a while back.

I agree, but I-26 has them for a short distance in N. Chas. Never understood that. After you cross the Ashley bridge into downtown, they have lights, but most of them are out, and have been out for months. Like you said, can't even change a light bulb?
I really didn't notice how dark it was myself around here until I returned from UAE last year. All of their streets are almost over lit. But I suspect that's because they are loaded with money.

Well they certainly weren't spending that money on poo because Dubai finally started building a sewer system like 4 years ago.

The entire country is younger than most of the people on this thread and now they have sewers and lights. Cut them some slack.
Charleston was dumping raw sewage into the harbor as late as the 1970’s. Sewage treatment is a relatively new invention.
