If you look at Berkeley County schools I recommend Hanahan, Stratford, and the new Cane Bay high that is opening in Aug. 2008.

What about secondary schools in Dorchester 2 District ? Also, have you heard positive or negative about Hanahan HS or middle schools in Hanahan?

Default Kids moved to area to teach and perform and love it.

They both just got their masters and teach and love it there. Good luck!

I graduated from Hanahan high and also went to the middle school. Both are very good schools. My niece and nephews go there now and I am friends with a teacher there.

We were set on Mount Pleasant area and the schools there are fine. Now we are exploring other options -- in particular Carolina Bay, James Island. Anyone know anything about the St. Andrews Middle School. I've heard good things about the West Ashley High School and James Island High Schools and middle schools. Just haven't heard about St. Andrews.

I have kids in Charleston County Schools -- Mt Pleasant elementary and middle schools, Academic Magnet and Charleston County School of the Arts (SOA) with one headed to Wando HS next year -- all are good.

I've worked with teachers who moved here from elsewhere and one had a really hard time at West Ashley HS. She moved to Berkeley County and was very happy there. Another loved teaching at James Island High. Another teaches in Dorchester II and is very happy. Sanders Clyde Elementary in Charleston has been doing a fantastic job with inner city kids -- I wouldn't rule out all the city schools -- take a look at their programs and administration first and consider what you can contribute.

Question BusEd teacher looking for position for SY 09-2010

I am currently living in Maryland, teaching BusEd and also coordinating our school's work-study program. Moving to SC (well, back to SC! Born and raised in Rock Hill) finally! Looking to find a position in a high school ... also certified in SpEd 7-12. Read suggestions in this forum to look at Mt. Pleasant schools and others in Dorchester 2 (where/what is Dorchester 2?) Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

i plan to visit the summerville area during my spring break. (ive visited before but this time, its different since im looking to move).

my initial goal was to move summer of 2010 after i have completed my masters. (will be done in the first of 2010) but my desire to get out of here is so STRONG that i want to try for this upcoming school yr.

my question is..should i wait until i have completed my masters (ive been teaching for 12 yrs) or make the move now? i am certified in elementary ed.

thank you in advance!

Default masters degree ready to move

Make sure you are ready for a huge culture shock. There are no unions here so be prepared. Most people who have moved to Charleston from up north have moved back within five years.
