Losing the shrimp boats is less about the development of Mt. Pleasant and more to do with the importing of cheaper shrimp from other countries.

If Mt. Pleasant stayed the sleepy beach town of days ago, those shrimp boats may have disappeared sooner.

I love the hustle bustle. Sure do respect folks that want to live in the country but you couldn't pay me to live in the country. I love the energy. I would probably prefer to live in an even BIGGER city but to get this close to the beach and live in the bigger city I would suspect we would need a lot more money.

And I haven't lived in a community EVER that hasn't grown.

southbel - hope you built far enough out so you don't get closed in again. It is exciting to get a new home. Enjoy

To all the people in Mt. Pleasant: Costco will not build another Costco in Charleston. There is already one in Charleston. You chose to live in the other end of the county away from it.

I would say, Costco will not build another location in the Charlston area yet. There will definitely be another one in the metro area in the future (as growth continues to explode), but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in Dorchester or Berkeley county instead of a second in Charleston county.

I'm looking at 100+ acres. I'll be fine. I just wanted to point out that while some people do not see the enormous growth of Mt P because they're fairly recent to the area, this is, in actuality, a fairly new thing. Not all places grow at the same rate we've experienced in Mt P. It's not a bad thing to say that it's grown faster and bigger than I wished. I know of plenty of places, equally beautiful, that has not had the same level of building and growth in the last 20 years.

I do think it's a mistake to automatically put down anyone that sees this growth as something which is getting a bit out of control. I'm not saying you did this by any means but it is something I've seen on these boards before. One thing I've noticed is how some people come here and say 'oh we don't want to change it at all' and then put down people who say 'hey we should really be careful about this growth rate'. I'm not trying to start an argument but rather just trying to help people see the flip side. Sometimes growth can be a bad thing, especially if it begins to erode the character and uniqueness of a place. To me, at least, this is what I think Mt Pleasant is in danger of experiencing. It just makes me a bit sad is all and rather than live here to see it happen, I'll just move on. Oh well. I am sure those moving here will be delighted with the town but for someone like me, it's simply not the place for me anymore.

In Anderson it took them 4 years to finish a 3 mile connector. It was ridiculous.

I must say though that i love the current state of Mt P. I love the growth, 5th fastest? Thats awesome. Hopefully Johns Island stays quiet, but Mt P was due for growth. Nothing stays the same forever. Seeing the Charleston area have this growth and success is exciting. The cities just need to do better with the infrastructure. I know older residents dont like it, and a lot of Mt P is anti-chain, but I think its for the better.

Some cities are growing because of immigration or just retirees, etc. Mt P-Charleston is growing from retirees and young professionals and families. And the jobs are coming as well, which means the income will come. Good for Mt P I say. 100,000 residents sooner than later.

Build the Costco. We also need a sporting goods store and a shooting range.

We are now the 4th largest municipality in the state. Time to act like it.
