We are looking to move an 86 year old gentleman into an independent senior housing situation. He is currently still driving and caring nicely for a single family house on a half acre up North. But he doesn't want to face another Winter up there alone. Yes, mid-October is a little late to start this journey, but it is what it is.

We will probably tour Sandpiper, the Palms, Sweetgrass, Somerby. ANY info you may have from personal experience with these (or other suggestions) are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Joy

I had two golfing buddies. One couple moved to Franke at Seaside in MTP and the other couple moved to Somerby in MTP. They were both intelligent, retired military officers. While we did discuss some details 4 years ago and most of which I forget, they were both happy with their choices.

Many of the CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Communities) will have a "buy in" price. The price, the services provided, upgrading services when needed (independent living to full time service aides), and the what ifs (who gets back what/when of the buy in), etc. are things that need to be looked at.

The problem we are personally facing is one saying well you are suggesting I give up my home and independence and go to living in a "nursing home" where one goes to die. Wrongo...but..but...and that is the tough part.

Maybe you have an Ace up your sleeve. He may have no experience in "this part of the country" and a CCRC should be looked at as it is normal and natural in "this part of the country".

Hope this helps.
