But. all of those cities have larger tourism numbers than Charleston AND have large business bases so that people make a good living.
Charlotte is making is "bones" on finance, energy, healthcare, fortune 500 companies, engineering, college sports broadcasting, tech and the list goes on.
I question that. lol Outside of country music fans, doubt Nashville has many tourists. Looks like a nice town though, from what I saw of it on the interestate at night the 3 or 4 times I've been by. There is a suburb just south of N'ville that is supposedly hoity toity and the bees knees. Name escapes me.
Actually no, it is just funny that the Charleston boosters come out of the woodwork to celebrate a magazine ranking for a publication that has a circulation which equals the population of Charlotte. I like Charleston as a visitor. y'all are funny though, a city growing primarily due to retirees and bartenders.....
Greatest city in SC........depends.
You would think that such a great city would have held its position in the south and not get dwarfed by Nashville, Charlotte, Raleigh, etc.....Oh well, at least you can celebrate the ranking of a magazine that reaches less that 1/2 of a percent of the US population. Even for the wealthy, this magazine has low numbers.
If you could live in any those cities and job wasn't factor and salary wasn't factor, etc, wouldn't Chuck be top choice for most? Just b/c of the bea....history and architecture? lol

Charlotte is a business hub.
Wasn't the point of the article about tourist destinations?
Charlotte is never going to be a tourist destination.
Charlotte and Columbia have some good talking points, in between the world's two greatest cities, G Vegas at no. 1 , Chuck at no. 2
Columbia is doing very very very well. Drove around a little on Saturday, there is construction everywhere. A new pharm plant just opened and downtown office space is now at a premium. Lots of new restaurants, Columbia Common, older building rehabbed into apartments, new apartments everywhere, Fluor & IBM moving into downtown, new baseball stadium, new shopping in multiple node of downtown, and of course Carolina.
Charlotte???? 10k apartments under construction, 10k more starting, new office towers sprouting up around the city, multiple new parks downtown, new baseball stadium, light rail extensions, street car linking downtown with ring neighborhoods, very fast growing tech industry, old theatre rehabs, expanding greenway well into SC from center city, great foodie scene in numerous areas of town, etc.......so, Orange, Clemson engineer or what ever your name has been, Greenville is lucky to be around Charlotte, read their chamber materials, it is written all over the place.......Greenville, close to Charlotte, close to Atlanta.

No, its not going to be, I agree. But, it does have more tourist than Charleston, by far. It is just a different type of tourist.
I like to visit Charleston, it is a great tourism destination. But, for folks to jump on Columbia is way off base and shows how little they know about the state capitol.

Salisbury, Asheboro are between Charlotte and Raleigh. Doesn't help them much. Obviously takes more than just being b/t two big cities.
Greenville makes sense for businesses with clients in both atlanta and Charlotte. Not somethign the chamber even needs to pitch. You act like charlotte and raleigh don't have chambers putting out propaganda for their cities. All RTP is is a big marketing ploy.
