Before we move again I have to be sure there are good drs there Hepatology{Liver} and GI. also what about part time jobs for retirees? We are retiring. dont need schools . would like to walk to a grocery or pharmacy if possible. Looking forward to moving!!!! thanks!!
Charleston has plenty of hospitals and is the home of the state's medical university. I'm not sure about Hepatology, but I know MUSC's GI and Digestive Disease section is excellent.
A friend of mine just had major liver surgery to remove a large tumor at MUSC a few months ago. The doctors were fantastic and my friend had no problems at all. They kept her tumor to research because it was out of the ordinary.
Really, it doesn't need that many people to respond.
You have:
MUSC - research university hospital. Main hospital downtown. Good for cancer, heart, children, and anything rare
Roper St. Francis - private system. Main hospital downtown with additional hospitals in West Ashley and North Mt Pleasant. I think they're opening another one up near Summerville. Great care with a huge network of doctors around town. Good for most issues but MUSC is superior for the complex and rare stuff.
Trident - Mostly up in the Summerville area. Would personally not recommend.
East Cooper - in Mt Pleasant. People like to have babies there. Would not recommend for major medical issues.

We second this ^ ^ ^...we live in Summerville and use Roper Hospital and doctors in West Ashley. We don't go near Trident Hospital.
Yeah, after a friend of mine had what was supposed to be a simple surgery there turn into him having to go to Duke to save his life, I have decided to not utilize Trident.
