Like the rest of the country...relocating to SC
Hi Yall! I'm moving to the Charleston area..possibly quicker than I had planned due to possibly landing an unexpected job...the job is in Mt. Pleasant. I had planned to make a trip there next month but may need to move sooner..so any advice?
Guess you need a little background on me...25 single female..living in Ar (lord help me) but from south Louisiana (no i didn't leave because of Katrina)....moving away from family and friends to a place I know no one....I want a nice safe place to live without it eating my entire paycheck...so we're talking max 850(furnished would be very helpful)....any words of wisdom would be great!
Thanks! Yall have a great day

Furnished for that price in Mt Pleasant I would think would be very difficult. Most furnished corporate apartments cost almost twice that. I do think you could get and unfurnished within your budget in Mt. Pleasant though.
Mt. Pleasant Apartments for Rent - Find Mt. Pleasant, SC Apartment Rentals
What my wife and I did was get a short term lease while we waited for our house to be built. As that turned out, the track builder had the worst customer service ever, evasive polices and I caught them cutting corners so I told them where they could stick their house, so the search continues...
I don't know Mt. Pleasant that well, but I am of the opinion that most area's are pretty good there. However, I hear the traffic is brutal in Mt. Pleasant so I would try and find a place as close to work as possible! I would mapquest the distance first and try and find some reviews on the apartments.
At all cost stay away from these long term hotels that have rates for about $200 per week. It is an great idea on paper, but you get what you pay for. There is tons of crime and rift raft in there. The kind of dirtbags that deal drugs and no one will give a lease to.
As far as you not knowing anyone, well my wife and I have met some nice people from meetup.com. Quite a few events get scheduled in Mt. Pleasant and you are my wife's age, so there are certainly lots of professional girls you can get to know.
PM me if you have any questions!
Regards

Hey Sharlie,
There are apartments on the Charleston peninsula, but I am unsure on how easy it is to get one this time of year as all the students have yet to vacate.
Most of North Charleston is undesirable and the good parts are on the Summerville border and may not have as many choices of apartments. Even so, the traffic would be brutal if you are working the regular rush hour shifts. The downside of having no mass transit!
West Ashley is also a consideration and is no doubt better than Mt. Pleasant for the price and the traffic isn't as bad. Depending how long you want to stay there, there are some short leases. My wife and I took an apartment in West Ashley (until we get a house) that is not the greatest, but not the worst either. It has short leases and they can get you furniture for a much more reasonable price than many other apartments that would be outside your price range.
There are some apartments for rent on craiglist that I see that are on the peninsula. A good apartment on the Peninsula of Charleston would be my first choice if I were you, but you have to be careful here, as there are some pretty bad area's to watch out for.
However, I believe most of the downtown apartments are in converted houses so having a land lord provide furniture may be very hard to find.
Here are some resources for you. Charleston Apartments for Rent - Find Charleston, SC Apartment Rentals
charleston, SC apts/housing for rent classifieds - craigslist
Try mapquesting the location to tell you your commute time.
If there is an apt you think you like, just let me know and I will do my best to tell you if the area is good or bad. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Good to know I'm not alone!
I may also be moving to Charleston fall of this year! Unlike you though, I've been there 4 times (staying in the Mt. Pleasant area) and I can tell you I've really liked what I've seen!
Feel free to mail me with any questions - can't help you on the housing info as I'm still researching that myself, but can try to help you in other areas.

[quote=Sharliedw;2520167]Bruce,
Is there anything you can tell me about
St.Charles Place(1920 McMillian Ave) - in N.Charleston near the old navy base??? stay far far far far away....
Middleton Cove (2274 Ashley River Road) - that's the historic hwy 61, good area and very central to many things in Chas
Charleston Arms(1551 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard) - "ok" area, central West Ashley not in the best area but not in the worst either... middle of the road place so to speak
out of those I'd pick Middleton Cove if I were you... I was raised in mostly the west ashley area btw...

Hey Sharlie,
I may have an opening for you in West Ashley. PM me & we'll talk.
I'm a Realtor, but this one isn't on the market.
Furnished, $500+, safe.
