Hello everyone- I am looking to relocate to SC in the upcoming months. I'm a single mom of 2. One 18 yr. old daughter who will be at A School (Navy) in Goose Creek and an 11 yr old son. I have worked in Administration and Medical fields for over 15 years. I only hold an actual certificate as a CNA. I am a Medical Assistant but I am not certified and have waited too long to certify. I have been an admin assist and office manager as well. Currently I work as a Triage assist to a group of Dr.'s. I work in pt accts, billing, I work with FMLA and Medicaid just a little background to see if someone could give me a little insight on a good safe neighborhood that's not too pricey to rent (at this point) with a decent middle school (where there would be other children of color that my son could feel comfortable in). Can anyone help me please, I just want to be near my daughter. Thank you in advance.

Without knowing more details I'd say focus on Summerville. You will probably get the most bang for your buck there and it has good middle schools and isn't too far from Goose Creek. Goose Creek's middle schools are so so, the best one is probably Westview near Crowfield.

Saint is probably right about Summerville being your best bet but without more info about your budget and what you need in the way of housing, we're just guessing. Give us some more details.... budget, # of bedrooms, do you have pets, etc

There's very little on the mls in the way of 2 bdrms for $800 or less. I'd suggest you call apt complexes and property managers in Summerville and Hanahan.

Greatschools.org will give you an idea of which schools are highly rated

I've actually found quite a bit of really nice complexes and townhomes and found a few schools to choose from thanks to everyone's help! Thank you for your reply.

I'm here in Charleston visiting my sailor who is finishing school at Goose Creek.

Summerville will probably be your best bet. It's a nice area, and a lot of sailors rent apartments there for the last phase of school.

Keep in mind that school/training will only last about 18 months before your daughter is shipped out for the remainder of her 6 years. Check out navyformoms.com if you have not seen it yet.
