Default If you were starting a business in the low country....

what industries/types of businesses would you be considering.

There are really two options. 1) Fill and unmet need or 2) do something others are already doing, just do it better/faster/cheaper.

I'm not the type to open an artsy coffee shop or something like that, but I'd like to take adavantage of the high end growth/development in the area.

How about a dating service for desperate women who want to meet illegal Mexican migrants for sex and companionship!

Although I really hate when people respond with empty comments...

If I were starting a business, I wouldn't let you know my plan. Especially if you were looking to start a business in the same area with NO plan.

Start a Cab company. I really think there is some real growth potential here because everyone of them have crappy cars, terrible service, over commit themselves and never show up when they are supposed to. If your service was good enough I think you could wipe every other company in the city out of business.

Heck, I would rather pay a little more for a cab that will show up! If you start one up, I will be your first customer and tell everyone! I promise!

How about a service to teach Yankees how to blend secretly into Southern society?

As far as northerners blending into the south is concerned there is a difference between questioning one's way of conducting business and questioning one's way of life.

Calling a cab 4 hours in advance and having to cancel after it does not show up 2 hours after it is supposed to would not be tolerated in a third world country, why should it be tolerated anywhere else?

Gosh, I was only having fun like all the other members. How could anyone take my comment seriously? Having a bad night? I wasn't even referring to your post.

I imagine there are all types of regulations and licenses to acquire, but an airport limousine service might make money. A housekeeping service also does well in many areas, but any business takes a lot of time and money to get started. It all depends on the amount of competition. Times are very tough right now. I don't need to live in SC to know that the unemployment rate is high. I live in a resort area in FL and many stores have closed.

JustNancy, Sorry about being crabby! I guess I didn't want take any chances that anyone could justify some of the bad service I received the other night!

Actually, your post on it's own is funny, and I like it.
