Is it my imagination or has the violent crime in the area seem to have gone up. I have noticed recently in the news that there have been numerous shootings and other crimes. I don't recall hearing about as many of these kinds of incidents in the past. What are your thoughts?

2 shootings last week(s) in downtown, one in IOP (Domestic). I haven't looked at the homicide stats yet for this year, so I can't make a judgement.

I am hearing more than avg accidents being reported on I-26, could be due to the population influx.

The area is growing rapidly and with that comes increased crime. I've been in Charleston for 5 years now, actually 5 years ago today and soon after I moved here I was a little concerned about the crime. The shootings you read about are mainly drug related or personal attacks. Those crimes don't bother me so much. The random acts of violence bother me much more and that happens very rarely, and the the thing is you can't avoid random violence no matter where you live. So just enjoy your new life here and like everywhere else you might live just use common sense and you will be fine! We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
