I live in Massachusetts and want to move to Charleston, but I'm wondering if the city is LGBTQ friendly?

I'm none of the above (I had to google to see what the Q meant) but I have G&L friends who seem to have no problems. This thread spans years but might shed some light:

Gay Life in Charleston County (especially James Island)

This is the second such thread in as many days,
must be gay migration season! Where do I move to?

Boston is fun.....but that winter......NO.

Anyhow, scroll on down a bit and see the recent similar
thread or excavate the prior posted link for more.

Just moved here from DC Metro area(grew up here though) and I was quite surprised how far the bible belt has come! You will not feel out of place at all in Charleston.

The Q means "questioning".

News to me, I'm the G in the alphabet soup and thought the same!

It's hard to keep up with the changes.

There's also "A" at the end for "Ally."

edit: and I've also understood the "Q" the same way that lenniel did, shortened from "genderque*r."

Heck I moved to Columbia (grew up 20 minutes south of Columbia) in 1984 after five years in DC and never skipped a beat being myself. The G applies to me, but I'm not flamboyant. I have never had any problems in Columbia whatsoever, and as I said earlier in this thread, I would think Charleston would be about like Columbia in this regard. In fact, during my time in DC a woman screamed the three-letter f-word at me from a car with a Virginia license plate I guess just because I was walking alone down P Street in Dupont Circle. That sort of thing has never happened to me here.
