macalan, if you lived anywhere else in the region Charleston would be the go to destination for what you are describing, so the fact that you live here doesn't change that. St Simons is very pretty but it's just about the same thing as any coastal lowcoutry community and there's little you'll see there that doesn't already exist here. It's like paying and schlepping to experience what is in your back yard. So really the only reason to go there is for the sake of seeing the same thing somewhere else, which isn't a great reason.

The outer banks are beautiful where there are protected areas and on the ferry rides but the rest of it is just one massive strip mall.

How about a romantic getaway for a few nights at Kiawah? It's not that it's so different than anywhere else but you guys can make full use of all the resort amenities and get super pampered.

Outer Banks and Wilmington area. Never been to Outer Banks, but pics look amazing. Love Wilmington, very cool, funky little town with lots to see and great shopping and restaurants.

Soulsea -
You make a good point.

We've also thought of Kiawah.

Maybe we'll do a night in Kiawah & a night in town.

Would be nice not to have to drive far.

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff near Hilton Head is gorgeous and definitely worth a look.

The setting is picturesque and perfect for anniversary celebration.
