I think radio stations across the country are hurting. With the ipod invasion nobody listens to radio anymore. Here in ATlanta, the radio stations are either pop, old rock, or country or talk. That's it. There's not an alternative station. Where do new bands get played.....ahh Itunes <G>.

98x plays new bands all the time here. They do not have any syndicated programming during the day.

Newspapers are hurting because people read their news on the internet so it was a matter of time before radio stations would be having problems too. I never listen to the radio except when I am in my car but usually I have a cd on.

I guess there really isn't a perfect place to live. So MaryJane with all the things you don't like it still has enough good parts to make you want to live there. What is downtown Charleston like? From what I found on the internet and in books it is nice.
|
You're absolutely right.. no place is perfect!
I am the worst nit-picker there ever was and yet, of all the places I've been, I've still got my hopes on moving to the Charleston area one day.
Downtown Charleston in the spring is my most favorite spot on earth. The huge old oaks and azaleas, walking or biking the side streets and all the beautiful old houses, the waterfront parks, window shopping on King St, the fresh seafood, the Old downtown open air Market; lots to see and do all around.. and all the expanse of water shimmering in the sun and the smell of the salt air. (I WOULD have complained about the old bridge that scared me to death that you had to cross to get there, but whew! they fixed that and fixed it VERY Wonderfully, thank goodness.
It's is not really that big of a city.. Perfect size to me; easy to get around and very well laid out.. very "homey". No "glitz", just Southern comfort.
Plus, you have all the other surrounding areas (towns) to explore.. all very different and unique in their own way.. 4 different beach areas.. and beautiful creeks and marshes... Did I mention all the beautiful old oak trees?? (i luv oaks.. hate pines) For someone like me that loves "day trips", there's just about something different to explore all year round. It's a photographer's wonderland.
So.. For ALL the good stuff about it, I can easily live with limp hair and smelling like eau de *OFF*. I can always avoid the areas I don't like. I just have to learn to keep my mouth shut if something annoys me.. LOL

How about 96.1, Album 88 & WREK? Lord knows, Atlanta has choices for new music!

1. That's discriminatory remark....should everyone be a white collar worker?
2. That's a GOOD thing! You can't go wrong with God.
3. Another GOOD thing....good, family values!
4. I agree with this one.
5. I guess this one depends on what you want out of "entertainment"...I love going to plays at the Dock Street Theater and seeing live performances at the N. Chas. Colliseum and the Performing Arts Center, think the clubs downtown are fun (though I'm not much into clubbing and bars), shopping downtown and the Town Center is more than adequate for me, and I could care less about pro sports.
I guess you are better suited for NYC -a place I've been to twice and couldn't stand either time. To each his own.

I noticed this when looking at real estate. I would see an old shot of an area on Google Maps, then a shot on the ad for a house and all the trees were gone!
I would think a city would not want this to happen. Isn't there a city government in place to make rules?
Around here they clear corn fields. Not quite the same.

MaryJane, Charleston sounds perfect for me. I love oak trees too. It's near the ocean which is great with me. But the fact that it isn't that big is the final piece of the puzzle. I lived in LA and hated it because it was so big. Thanks for the info.

Why the locals know where they are going....
The tourists have to ask for directions which gives them more interaction with locals...
And transplants provide entertainment when they get lost and refuse to ask directions since they know everything already....
