NOPE!! CLT doesn't any more Ohioans...we're about overloaded too. I think every other car I see is from Ohio My first apartment complex must have offered a discount if you were from Ohio. I counted 28 cars in a 215 unit apartment that either were bought in or had Ohio tags.l...

2) People moving here expect the same things they left in bigger cities. Charleston is charming and should be enjoyed.
I moved to Summerville from Boise, ID in December 2008 and I love it here. EXCEPT for the local politicians. I just don't get it. It is one thing to say the state is conservative --- it is another thing to elect the likes of Wilson, Sanford and DeMint.. They are a mess in my view and do not do justice to the people of S.C.
Perhaps I'll be criticized for saying this, as I'm a transplant myself, but I've chosen to assimilate as much as possible for I believe that the old adage "When in Rome.." applies. Hopefully, many more transplants will choose to do the same in honor of preserving the charm that makes Charleston so unique.

I agree with the "When in Rome" part (and the stuff about the politicians). We are moving to Charleston in 2 weeks from West Chester, PA. We are relocating because there is enough stuff that we don't care for up here to make us want to get the heck out. I have no intentions of comparing Charleston to the NE. I hope that they are nothing alike. I want good weather, friendly people and a more laid back lifestyle in a nice community. After living in Denver for 5 years and coming back, I realized how, as a whole, people here are less friendly, in a hurry and take themselves way too seriously. I am looking forward to our new life in the south.

Funny thing I seem to be reading here. It's people who come down here and complain. I moved down here to get away from the nit picking , fast paced , crappy weather ,we are better that you attitude. I am seeing it here with people complaining that nothing gets done , its slow down here ,it smells , crowded , not crowded enough too many cops blah , blah.... I have a news flash for you people.....Its WAY slower , calmer , friendlier, nicer , better weather than up north. It's just the way it is. Either embrace it and live it or dont bother comming down here and give all of the transplants who LOVE it here a bad name.

Speaking as a transplant, I'll say whatever the f**k I want. Thanks for your advice though. I'm sorry you don't like where you come from. I loved where I came from, even though many things about it were unpleasant. I'm capable of enjoying a place even when there are things about it that bother me. And a thread where people air their issues with the city seems like an OK place to discuss those things.

Funny thing is that you obviously said what ever you wanted and I said what I wanted here on this thread. Thanks for showing how ignorant most people in this day and age are becoming.

There is only one thing about Charleston that I do not like, no direct flights to most destinations.

Bugs
[quote=seacoastbill;2563105] - The Bugs: There are a tremendous amount of aggressive mosquitos and noseeums. They like being out when the weather is best. So if you like being out, they will be out.
Yeah, bugs is an understatement. They call them cute names in Charleston, like Palmetto Bugs. What they are, are very large cockroaches! They are outside, inside, in your bathtub!?! They're everywhere. Has nothing to do with cleanliness, they are drawn to the moisture.

Same here .......or at least(another thing lacking) really cheap flights to Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham and Atlanta. They should have a shuttle back and forth to those cities. They could pick a dozen dozen times per week when it would be just $50 round trip and I bet every flight would be packed and more people would fly than would have otherwise just because they wanted to go shopping for the day or something.
Maybe it would be such a success that more people would fly and the airport would become more viable.

By the time you fly to Atlanta you might as well drive.....seriously. Airports are a hassle for anything under six hours of driving.

I agree, we are going to DC for TG and are driving but our Summer vacation is going to require us to fly, cruising out of San Juan can't drive there....
