the whole breed(s) need to cease to exist, they have been bred for too many years to kill instinctively and there's no amount of therapy to cure something that has been so forcefully inbred into them
it's a useless dangerous breed, stats speak for themselves
and I'm a distant relative of Tant, one of the biggest names of pit breeders in the world so yes I have more than a little knowledge about this as do most people by now...
you want to save someone rather than a dog that will eventually kill or severely hurt a person without a seconds notice

Stats?
You want stats, try the Post Office. According to them, German Shepherds are the bitingest dogs. To the original poster, with the kind of ignorance that has been exhibited on this board, you know you have a real job ahead of you, and at least one poster is apparently related to someone who breeds dogs for fighting. I hope that's illegal in SC as it is in California. We also have (most towns) very strong leash laws, for all dogs, for their protection, because "unleashed is unloved". I'm not religious but if I were, I 'd say you're doing God's work. Thank you.

Thanks Meks for an informed educated response.
Unfortunately young ones like the thread starter, and Mr. Harley Man who has probably never even seen "The Economist" and needs 750 lbs of steel obnoxious rumbling noise between his legs and a pit bull to "feel like a man" will probably disagree. He probably wouldn't benifit from a helmet law either.
Cheers!

Ive owned pit bulls for most of my life and I have never had one problem. So to generalize about a breed as a whole is really ignorant. Alot of pit bulls these days are mostly bred for temperment. My pit bulls have all passed obdience courses and one of my pit bulls passed a service test so I could bring him into hospitals to visit burnt children. I don't think they would pass my dog if they thought he would kill and mangle children. SO once again generalizing a certain breed doesn't make much sense. I think it's time for people who blame everything bad that happens on the dogs to stop being ignorant and start blaming the owners!!!

I am sad to report that Mr. Harley Man is nothing but a Pit Bull troll.
Click on his name, click on posts and you will find 2 pages of posts supporting Pit Bulls from coast to coast. Nothing else to contribute to the city data boards except pimping Pit Bulls.
When you read something ...consider the source.

pimping pit bulls???? hes stating his dogs are positive members of society and one is helping to brighten the days of children that have suffered from burns. that is a wonderful thing.
i really cant get over the overwhelming posts im reading about how pit bulls are all awful and the breed should be banished. its childish. i dont understand. its actually racist. am i going to get hated on when i move to my neighborhood in goose creek because my dog is a pit bull? he was lonely and scared in the pound and i rescued him. i think i did a really good thing. my dog is so loving and loyal and FRIENDLY. dont judge my dog. i have taken the time to make him as well behaved and good as any other dog you can put next to him. this thread is so discouraging.

how am I pimping out pit bulls? I'm not selling them for sex on here. Yes I have posted alot about pit bulls, but I have also posted on alot of other stuff, but mostly I stay in the dog forum, so saying I contribute nothing elso to the city data board is just ignorance. But then again from your posts about pit bulls I'm not suprised. To the person who started this thread, I'm sorry this has gotten away from what you have intended this post to do, because your goal is a great one. And to all of us who love this breed and really know what there about can just laugh at those who try to blame the breed as a whole instead of the irresponsible owners who ruin it for everyone else.

Huh? Because someone agrees with you (or claims to be a distant relative of a well known dog fighter), it automatically makes theirs an "educated" response? That's amazing...
To Meks, if what you say is true, and you in fact are a distant relative of Mr. David Tant who wants to claim to know this breed based on that one little "fact" (or fiction)... I would hope that you would also know that American Pit Bull Terriers were bred to be submissive and NONaggressive towards humans. Any dog that showed signs of human aggression was culled and *should* be today still. The reason for this is because handlers (both the dogs and it's opponent) had to be able to reach into the "Pit" and separate dogs during a "battle", without any human getting bit. And more often than not, these dogs lived (and still do) INSIDE the home, with children, as family companions. These dogs have been specifically bred to NOT redirect aggression onto humans. I would pray that you also know and understand, because you are a "distant relative of the second biggest dog fighter in the United States... that DOG aggression does NOT equal human aggression.
If dog aggression was the same as human aggression, I have no doubt that we'd hear about more "vicious Beagle attacks", because these are just one of MANY breeds whose purpose is to chase down/hunt and kill other animals. Yet people say that Beagles get along famously with children and are just happy go lucky little tail wagers with most any human. The difference is that "Vicious SNOOPY Attacks" doesn't, and never will, get the same reaction and uneducated public outcry as "Vicious Pit Bull Attacks".
You're right, stats do speak for themselves... it's a matter of whether or not people will bother to read further for the TRUTH, instead of becoming brain dead media minions who thrive on the next report of some bloody mess that COULD have and SHOULD have been prevented (whether or not the dog was a pit bull) through responsible parenting, pet ownership and handling.
My "favorite" stats used by many anti-pit people are CDC stats. People look at a chart full of dog breeds and mixes with numbers beside each breed/mix... but they don't bother to read further and find (and I quote):
* Considering only bites that resulted in fatalities, because they are more easily ascertained than nonfatal bites, the numerator of a dog breed-specific human DBRF rate requires a complete accounting of human DBRF as well as an accurate determination of the breeds involved. Numerator data may be biased for 4 reasons. First, the human DBRF reported here are likely underestimated; prior work suggests the approach we used identifies only 74% of actual cases.1,2 Second, to the extent that attacks by 1 breed are more newsworthy than those by other breeds, our methods may have resulted in differential ascertainment of fatalities by breed. Third, because identification of a dog’s breed may be subjective (even experts may disagree on the breed of a particular dog), DBRF may be differentially ascribed to breeds with a reputation for aggression. Fourth, it is not clear how to count attacks by crossbred dogs. Ignoring these data underestimates breed involvement (29% of attacking dogs were crossbred dogs), whereas including them permits a single dog to be counted more than once. (CDC Special Report on breeds involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998, September 2000)
or
* When multiple dogs of the same breed were involved in the same fatal episode, that breed was counted only once (eg, if 10 Akitas attacked and killed a person, that breed was counted once rather than 10 times). When crossbred dogs were involved in a fatality, each suspected breed in the dog’s lineage was counted once for that episode. Second, we tallied data by dog. When multiple dogs of the same breed were involved in a single incident, each dog was counted individually. We allocated crossbred dogs into separate breeds and counted them similarly (eg, if 3 Great Dane-Rottweiler crossbreeds attacked a person, Great Dane was counted 3 times under crossbred, and Rottweiler was counted 3 times under crossbred). Data are presented separately for dogs identified as pure- and crossbred. (CDC Special Report on breeds involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998, September 2000)
Check out "Law Dogs USA". There are some amazing stores about CRIME fighting Pit Bulls on that site... a dog that you claim to be useless. Another site with loads of information about Heroic Pit Bulls (aka, useless dogs) is "For Pit's Sake". Check out their Search and Rescue page to learn WHY the American Pit Bull Terrier is the preferred dog for SAR work.
To Condorll, you never did let the original poster know how you did with the 3 find the Pit Bull games. I'm curious to know... how many pictures did you click on before you found the Pit Bull? I would bet money that it took you more than one attempt on each game. I'd also bet money that if you saw me walking down the street with my foster dog, you'd be happy to greet her and accept her doggy kisses... that is if you aren't afraid of dogs (in general). I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't think she's a Pit Bull at all... unless of course you condemn any dog with a short coat and amber eyes to death because you *think* it might be a Pit Bull.
Also, may I ask you... what is your opinion of Helen Keller? Thomas Edison?

Don't let this thread discourage you. Not everyone here thinks like that. Especially the pet places like veterinarians and the pet stores. They will welcome your dog with open arms

Wow, what playful banter I am reading. I sure am glad to know that difference of opinion on whether or not a specific breed of animal is cuddly won't lead to personal insults. What say we muse on some light-hearted political topics, or even religion. Hell, let's throw in some race relations issues just for fun. That would be a hoot.
