Recently moved to Mount Pleasant just south of the the IOP Connector. From time to time, like this morning, we get a distinctive odor in the air. What is the difference between the Pluff mud smell and the paper plant?
Any idea of what is in the air over here this morning?

It's either the paper mill or Phil Collins.

The paper mill has a formidable acrid, sour smell that stings the nostrils. Pluff mud smells like a cross between rotten eggs and your cat's litter box. Take a drive over the Don Holt bridge into scenic Hanahan some morning and you'll get the essence of paper mill funk real fast.

It's the paper mill. We get it all the time here on Daniel Island.

The Pluff Mud smell is decaying material in the mud, especially noticeable at low tide.
