It's more of a formality at this point really

Yes, this is meaningless. Charleston is nice, but no better than other southeast coastal cities.

I do agree that to say Charleston is the best is much like saying blue is the best color... there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to best places to live but otoh, I don't agree that Charleston is no better than other coastal cities. Based on our growth rate, and the steady stream of accolades it does seem that Charleston is more highly regarded than most other coastal cities. It isn't the case for everyone but it is for a high percentage of folks.

You put that in quotes... Do you know that to be true?

"The city is paying for these placements."

This is true, not only of the city, but of the entire metro Charleston area. These accolades make more people want to move here. Traffic increases, roads are congested, etc. and the infrastructure can't handle it.

I put it in quotes to mock people that say it.

Be easy on me now Mutiny. We know Charleston is nice, but overrated.

I also believe the City pays for these ratings too.

"Overrated" is subjective--and I actually believe the city is underrated in some respects--but I don't doubt that the CVB or some other entity pushes many of these rankings.
