Thinking about retiring to Charleston/Mount Pleasant and we'd like to live on a golf course. Is Dunes West recommended? Also concerned about possibility of flooding.
If you talk to the golfers, Rivertowne Country Club is one of the best in the state. Dunes West does have homes on larger lots, ie. one acre, but the golf course needs some work and the club house is some what dated compared to the one at Rivertowne. Charleston National is an older community but with what I am told, quite a nice golf course. Each community is going to give you a different feel.
Location: Nothing could be finer... I'm in S. Carolina!!

I used to work at Dunes West (cart girl) and the people who live around there (and hang out at the clubhouse) are all really nice. I think the golf course is nice and the houses by the golf course all look well kept. The ammenities are nice too. In all the time I was there (a year), I never saw flooding, but I also didn't drive around the course when it rained hard. haha. Overall, the clubhouse had a nice community feel and there were a lot of course walkers near dark from the neighborhood - and lots of gators for neighbors!
I'm sure there are other places that are just as nice too though.
Seems like everybody has their favorite for their own personal reasons. But retiring on a golf course sounds like heaven any way look at it. You could probably find out about the different courses at golfing.sc
