Just a short question
I live in west ashley, and I work in mt pleasant
I know it's a long ride, but could I drive a moped on ravenel bridge ?
I mean, is a moped allowed to ride the 17 ?
Thank you

Modern mopeds over 200cc's will easily do over 80. If it's that 50cc Vespa you were talking about importing from Italy... you'd be lucky to make it to the top of the bridge at all. I had a 50cc Yamaha Vino and it topped out at around 40mph down hill. Honestly, this is a terrible idea.

I just saw a man , a woman I assume is his wife and 4 small children tooling down Calhoun Street on a golf cart. I thought of this thread and my urge to yell at someone for their personal safety.
I actually know someone who was killed on the Ravenel about 5 years ago riding a moped. The guy who hit her was drunk but his lawyer argued that the moped was not legal for that classification of highway and he walked. There is too much size/power disparity between a moped and a passenger or commercial vehicle for it to be safe.
Now in the middle of downtown or the beaches it would be if=deal because you could zip around and would be safer since you can respond quicker than a car should you encounter a pedestrian.
Sounds like a terrible idea. I doubt your moped can go uphill at 60mph, which then makes it unsafe for everyone. Buy a cheap motorcycle/ fast road legal dirt bike if you don't want a car.
Maybe you can also explain, why would anyone want to ride a moped, other than having a DUI? These aren't exactly the streets of Florence (not the one in SC).

Rule of thumb ... if you cant keep up with the traffic / speed limit on a road ... don't do it ...a 50cc engine cant keep up on any highway here...save it for local roads for your safety and others on the road.
