Of course -- it's just two of us, cars are full of gas. We can go in second. Fortunately we have easy access to highway so no biggie.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing what I WANT to see. You know what I mean.

I'm thinking of staying. I'd hate to evacuate just for tropical storm winds. My work closes for the actual storm, during the aftermath I'm still going to be expected to be at work. So leaving to escape the aftermath isn't much of an option. I doubt they're going to reverse lanes so that everybody can come back.

We're staying. If you're inland it looks to me like the worst we might see is Cat 1 in gusts but not sustained hurricane force winds. Tropical storm force winds can cause lots of damage too, but I feel like we will be fine to just stay put.

In yall's observations, are most people staying put for now? Or, is Charleston starting to feel kind of empty?

Yeah, I'm on James Island and in my general neighborhood, it looks like about half left and half stayed. I did see a few cars packing up this morning though. I'll assess tomorrow morning but for now I'm leaning towards staying.

The important thing to do is watch the forecast models which are known to be dead on. Dave Barry has a useful update on Matthew with the latest forecast models included:
