In my opinion, Charleston has Wilmington beat six ways from Sunday. We looked there also, and found it lacking in History, Entertainment and just plain eye-pleasing Beauty. As I recall, it's a longer drive to the NC Beaches.
Speaking of Beaches......there are 3 main Beaches around Charleston, each with a slightly different character. Folly Beach to the south has a Key West sort of Vibe. They like to call themselves "The Edge of America" You should google up their most recent Folly Gras celebration to see if that's the kind of thing you're looking for.
Sullivan's Island to the North of Chucktown has a more laid-back feel. There's a couple of good Restaurants there, and a little bit of History around Fort Moultrie and the older part of town. The beach is very nice too.
Isle of Palms Beach is a little more upscale -- again, my opinion.
You've already received a lot of good suggestions on this thread. Enjoy your stay here in our Fair City.
Great tips in this thread as usual! There's a big difference from your original 1st week of May plan to your now 2nd week in June plan. It will be considerably warmer and the Spoleto Festival might be ongoing. Spoleto adds lots of opportunity for arts and music fun and it also adds a ton of congestion to the downtown streets. Still if you want to check it out: https://spoletousa.org/ Piccolo Spoleto Festival**| *
Will be in The Charleston Area next week, Any Realtors have time to show 2 separate interested parties some properties? ETA for Relocate is 2 years but want to get a feel for the area.
I was down there in June and loved every minute of it. I cannot wait to return. Must've crossed the Ravenel Bridge 15 times in my short stay but as long as there weren't any tolls!!
Already have searches set up for possible I.T. Jobs so I can relocate there as soon as possible.
I'm hooked on Shrimp and Grits. Had it at Fleet Landing & it was amazing.
Just to stay in touch with the area I had to Binge-Watch "Southern Charm".
Charleston is nothing short of intoxicating.Spring and fall there are fabulous, and winter is even great Our daughter just moved from Mt Pleasant to Michigan, what a bummer!
