I'm looking for a dentist, preferably in the West Ashley/James Island/Downtown areas that doesn't charge an exorbitant new patient fee. I've been going to dentists all my life and have never heard of charging an initial fee. I don't have insurance so I can't really be paying $150 on top of cleaning fees and x-rays. I've been hoofing it back to Spartanburg to my old dentist since we moved last year. This is a bit of a scheduling nightmare as you might imagine.

I don't really have issues with my teeth, so I don't need the bells and whistles. Just the bi-yearly cleaning and the occasional filling. Though I do prefer a soft touch as my teeth are sensitive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I pass this one on the way to-from work and have seen their digital sign outside advertise a $99 special with cleaning and xrays...

It seems to me I've seen Groupon deals for initial visits/cleanings. Check there. Once you go through the initial groupon deal, it's probably just regular cleaning/checkup prices for future visits.

I have gotten promotions in the mail from this one: https://www.northcharlestonfamilyden...tions-specials Not in your target area, but closer than Spartanburg. Looks like they have a $59 new patient exam, cleaning and xrays deal until 3/4. The office is in a nice shopping area by Westcott.

Dr Bannister on Daniel Island is great. Very reasonable & conservative (doesn't do a lot of expensive procedures unless absolutely necessary).

I would not recommend North Charleston Family Dental whatsoever. The initial special seems good, but once you are in there, they will find every little thing they can that needs to be "fixed" and then set you up on an exorbitant payment plan. Then they will call or text non stop to remind you of the urgency to get back in for treatment. A money making operation for sure. Dr Amanda Gregory in Summerville is an old fashioned dentist who is extremely reasonable.

Hubs and I go to Ashley River Comprehensive Family Dentistry in West Ashley. It's off Charlie Hall Blvd. It's the best dentist I've been to, always had a good experience, and I'm usually terrified of dentists. I've been a patient there since 2012 and wasn't charged any sort of new patient fee then, but it's hard to know what the policies are now and differences in insurance. Dr. Wolf and the assistant Talia are great though!

Ahhh, good to know! I was just passing on what I had seen. There is probably a catch with any that advertise fees that are too good to be true.

I can't recommend Dr. Gregory's office, though. Sorry!

Have been very pleased with both Drs. Finkbine. I have insurance, so no idea what the services would cost without it. I haven't found them to be the kind to recommend anything I didn't need.

There's no shortage of dentists in this area, that's for sure.
