You can get your BJ's Wholesale card early and avoid possible waiting for sign-up at the opening.

BJ's has opened a store front for applications at the Galleria Shopping Center, where Bacon's Bridge and Trolley Roads split. That's the plaza with the Bi Lo and Petland among others. The BJ store is across the parking lot in a strip of stores directly opposite Petland.

The fee is $45 for a 14 month membership starting when the store opens, scheduled for June.

Wait a while and they will hand out free membership for a trial period.

Let's see. You buy a 12 month membership in April and get 14 months so it expires June 2017. If you wait until the store opens in June and buy a 12 month membership it expires June 2017. Are all their special offers that good?

I think the OP said the 14 month membership begins, or becomes effective, when the store opens in ? June, so it might not end until August 2018. Still, sounds like-- I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. I can wait.

Exactly.

Sams and Costco are always having deals and they aren't doing a 'Grand Opening'. I'd wait and see.

Right now Sams is having membership for 45.00 and get 25.00 Sam's gift card, cookies and pizza. Living Social had a Costco deal less than a year ago for 55.00 membership and free batteries, pizza and gift card almost making it free.

What I used to do with Sams, since it's so far away, is if I needed something from there, I'd print the Sam's coupon that they had on their website for free 1 day visit. I could go in and get whatever without paying a surcharge or being a member. I don't know if they still have that but I had used it a couple of times.

I'm going to be really fascinated to see if people in Summerville will sign up and pay a yearly membership to shop at BJ's.

I will gladly, but will others.

I don't think I've ever been in a BJs. If it is more like Costco than Sams and if they have a good membership deal, I will for sure join....maybe even not renew the Costco membership. Costco and Sams are so far away that I only go a few times a year.

Just doing a quick google search, I found this BJs deal on Groupon. It's expired but I see these type deals all the time. I'd wait for a good deal on membership.

I travel for work, so I shop at BJs' from time to time.

I think it's more like Costco than Sam's Club. Key differences:

-BJ's has smaller quantities
-BJ's accepts coupons
-BJ's has a full deli section where you can get sliced meats and cheeses

It's just a different mix of merchandise. Also, BJ's is going smaller with their warehouse concept. So the one in Summerville will be 80,000 square feet, which is half the size of Sam's Club and Costco.
