Yeah, for anyone who doesn't know Tim's has some kick ass coffee and for that reason is the number one chain in Canada. For anyone who doesn't know, Tim Horton was a hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs on their last Stanley Cup winning team 40 years ago!
Because it is cold and miserable there for half the year, it is little wonder why the landscape is littered with them. If anyone opened a Tim's they would certianly have a monopoly on all the Canadian locals and tourists. Heck, on my street in Summerville there are 3 Canadian homes that I know of that would flock to a Tim's.

I think Tim's could compete, because it offers a great product, at a great price with quick service. It caters to the average person better than Starbucks does.
For a regular non gourmet coffee shop, it is some of the best coffee there is. So much so, that Tim's has opened a location in Afganastan because the Canadian Soldiers that are there "fighting the war on terror" missed it so much. You can also get a quick sandwich or soup for lunch at Tim's as well.
Tim's has had a strangle hold on the Canadian coffee market for many years. I don't think Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts has been much of threat to them.
I have full confidence in Tim's products and it's ability to compete with the best of them. The only strike I see is the initial name brand recognition in this area.
Another great Francise I have seen locally is Qudoba. They are only located at the N. Charleston airport area. But, I think their product is good enough there is room for many more of them.
Another francise I like, that I saw in Texas is Jack in the Box. There is not one of them around here and I think there would be room for one of them here as well.

Cheesecake Factory is awful. I've been dragged there four or five times in various cities and have never been impressed. It's redneck fine dining. You might as well put a Red Lobster in the historic district.

I am surprised to hear that...I've only been to two of them Vegas (several times) & Buckhead GA but both were outstanding...Maybe I don't get the sence of redneck dining b/c of the locations we were at...

Charleston and Mount Pleasant does not have enough "ethnic" cuisine.
It feels like one roadhouse after another sometimes (with the exception of Southeast cuisine, there are many excellent southern independently owned restaurants and bistro's).
The area needs "good" Greek, Lebanese and possibly Indian restaurants and there are franchises available for each. Perhaps it will not be not as clear cut and easy as McDonalds to set up the agreement but you should be able to work out a deal.
Contact me via direct message if you would like suggestions for who to contact as I have travelled throught the US and Canada and can recommend some pretty good ones.

There are alot of franchises growing here in California where I am @ the moment. We traveled all of last year-just exploring from Florida to San Diego then San Diego to Montana and now Montana to Northern Cali. Soon we will make the drive from Northern Cali to Charleston and I am so excited to try all of the food !! I will say that Louisana had some of the best food yet and San Diego has the BEST mexican food for cheap too...We even drove across the border to La Fonda, MX and had all you can eat lobster for 6.99~~

Thank you so much for agreeing about Cheesecake Factory. We have one in Columbus. The menu was 14 pages long and they don't even have a kids menu. Horrible. We spent 40 bucks on lunch. What a waste of money!

I think they are so successful because they have a very nice atmosphere that is very bold and imposing. It makes you think the food is going to be great, and people that aren't used to good food think that it is. The atmosphere dictates what their average customer thinks about the food. To me, however, food reigns supreme. And the food at Cheesecake Factory is just plain bad. It is a dressed-up Applebees. You can wrap a turd in Christmas paper, but it still stinks.
