Not sure this has been mentioned but SC schools are County, not city or town, controlled. MTP schools are Charleston County School Committee controlled. Some County school systems have several districts like Dorchester 1, Dorchester 2, etc. There will often be deals struck intras county deals struck such as Daniel Island is in Charleston/Charleston County but their high schoolers go to school in a Berkeley High School which is in Berkeley County.
Want to upset a Daniel Island resident? List their city address as Charleston SC not Daniel Island SC. The mail will arrive properly as it is ZIP Code sorted but they will quickly say I live on Daniel Island, not in Charleston.
John...Incorrect.... Daniel Island is in Berkeley County not Charleston County... hence it has Berkeley County functions... schools, EMS and library...Daniel Island schools are both rated highly...while resident public high school students currently attend Hanahan High school , starting this August they will attend a newly built Berkeley County high school (Simmons)just off Island.
In addition Daniel Island is also within the City of Charleston limits..hence a neighborhood in the city like so many others.... so are provided services that are the responsibility of cities ... police , fire , rec and parks.
I know quite a few folks who live on the island...including close family ... all of whom use Charleston as their address... some folks use both....haven't seen Daniel used alone in years... the zip code is largely a city of Charleston zip.
