Subdivision Off of Snake River Road??
While visiting a couple of weeks ago, I spent a lot of time driving around the North Charleston, Summerville, Moncks Corner and Goose Creek areas looking for the kind of house we're going to want when we relocate.
We like older homes with mature trees and a good sized back yard. We need a one floor plan due to my elderly mother living with us that prohibits stairs.
We found an area off of Snake River Road that was nice, but for the life of me, I can't recall the name of the area. I just know that we went out Snake River Rd past a very nice large new looking school (I'm thinking elementary school) and it found it I believe after turning left. If I recall correctly, my daughter said it was near the naval weapons base?
Does anyone know perhaps what area this is called so I can continue looking on real estate sites?
Thanks in advance!
Barb

Carlton Place, Kensington, The Reserve and Hanahan Plantation are all in the area you mentioned. Carlton Place is -just- past Goose Creek Primary on the right.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Charleston. Even if you spent a lot of time driving around the areas you mentioned, I suspect that you saw less than 5% of the area and missed most of the areas that might meet your requirements. As most out of town buyers quickly learn, the internet is a great tool for beginning ones search for homes and communities in their price range, but nothing substitutes for getting out with a Realtor and exploring different community and home options. There are hundreds of real estate web sites that allow the consumer to search for homes for sale in different subdivisions and neighborhoods. However, only a small percentage of them in my opinion provide the viewer with hundreds of photographs of representative homes in different price ranges, photos of community amenities, shopping options, medical facilities, private and public school information, test scores and useful information to give a potential home buyer the tools needed to at least initially start to identify "on paper" the best communities to meet their needs. I would highly recommend that you invest time in identifying a Realtor in the Charleston area who is experienced in representing purchasers of homes in the areas in which you might have an interest and has an in depth knowledge of those areas. You can save countless hours by doing so at no expense to you. Ideally, a potential purchaser might select their Realtor through the recommendation of a friend. Another option is to investigate a number of Realtor web sites to see how informative they are by not only proving the ability to search homes for sale, but also in the information they provide about the different communities. It is simple for anyone to put up a generic web site of any kind. However, in my opinion, an in depth informative web site communicates the professionalism of the person that web site represents in addition to providing initial information to help someone make a relocation decision. I suspect that the many Realtors who have contributed to this forum will agree.

DJShymansky - Thanks for the names! I'll check with my daughter and she'll be able to pinpoint for me in addition to a couple of the real estate web sites I have in my favorites list!!
USC Joe - I appreciate your reply. As someone who has been down the 'home buying path' quite a few times, I'm pretty well versed in the process that I enjoy. I enjoy exploring areas and find the driving a pleasant way to spend time. Call me crazy - but the discovery and exploration is something that I consider quite enjoyable! My daughter lives in North Charleston so I venture out while she is at work during the day based on areas that she recommends for me.
Right now, I am not close to buying a home yet as my husband has not yet retired. I do hope we can do so within a year's time. In the mean time, I am educating myself on various communities by reading, exploring and talking with friends of my daughter's in addition to her input. I do understand about the web - and have acquired several exceptional websites that I keep an eye on for how the market is going in particular areas of my choice. As you suggested, these will be the Realtors I will deal with.
I do a pretty good job of identifying areas with the amenities you mentioned - shopping areas, hospitals, community events, and price range that I want to spend. I also have educated myself based on various demographic information as to what school areas will assist me with resale value should I ever want to sell this house. All of our children are grown and on their own, so that is not tantamount in my decision for selection of areas to reside.
I do not have a time frame at present for my home purchase. I'd hate to tie up a Realtor at this point escorting me around. At this stage of the game, I would be using their valuable time unnecessarily. I'm sure their time right now at my stage of the game would be better spent with customers who are closer to making a new home choice than I am. I just wouldn't feel right monopolizing their time right now.
I appreciate your well thought out reply. It is obvious that you have a lot of information to offer someone coming to the area. I appreciate all who have posted in this forum on various real estate topics for us to learn from.
Thank you again!

As always, I appreciate the kind words about my response and the help I am trying to furnish. Keep in mind, I think that all the Realtors who have taken the time to contribute informative information on this web site would welcome an opportunity to "show off' all the things that Charleston area has to offer. You certainly seem to have "things under control" and it is nice to have family in the area to give you some help and guidance with regards to neighborhood options.

If the school was on the right hand side of the road and the home was on the left side that is St.James Estates.

Word to the wise....
I presume you're talking about SNAKE Rd. (Not Snake River Rd), and I further presume you're looking at the many "slap em up with vinyl siding & duct tape" homes down Foster Creek Rd?
If so, four words to strike fear in your heart: Hanahan police speed trap. I'm just sayin'.

I recall a sign saying 'Snake River Rd'... Google maps shows both - Snake Rd and Snake River Rd - not sure what's up with that.
In looking at the maps, Fosters Creek Rd is not in the direction I was looking. More toward the other way - perhaps it fed into Red Bank Rd. Your presumption that I am looking for duct tape and vinyl siding homes is incorrect. Cookie cutter homes with postage size lots one on top of the other is what I am steering away from.
I'll investigate further on my next trip to Charleston to visit daughter.
Thanks for the info.
