I will be moving to the Charleston area very soon, and my husband and I are looking around for a new church. We currently attend an interdenominational church in GA, and we would like to stick to a rather contemporary service on Sundays. We particularly like how our current church emphasizes music and worship. Any recommendations? Thanks!
East Cooper Baptist is another one that has a later contemporary service.
If you are in Summerville, Crossroads Community is another one or St. Paul's Summerville.
Welcome to the area!
If you tell us what part of Charleston you will be living in, it will help with church recommendations. Most people prefer to attend a church within a 15-20 minute drive from their home. Charleston is known as the "Holy City" so finding a church won't be a problem! Most, if not all, denominations now offer both contemporary and traditional services.
My husband and I will likely end up in either the Goose Creek or Mt Pleasant area, depending on where my new job is located. However, we are willing to drive up to about 30 minutes to church.
Our church, United Ministry, in West Ashley has a great diverse group of people and has an upbeat service with great music and worship. We're a small church when compared to Seacoast and some others, but that has its benefits as well. You can read more about us at United Ministry, Charleston, South Carolina Our service starts at 10:30 am on Sundays, but starting April 1st we are moving it back to 10 am. My wife and I just moved to the Goose Creek area last Fall and it's about a 25 minute commute.
I've been reading through many of the posts on churches. My family is relocating to the Charleston (general) area in the middle of May, moving from southern California, with the sole purpose of starting a new church. Since I'm unfamiliar with the area, other than what I have seen on the internet, I was wondering if anyone would like to give some input on good areas for us to rent a home, while keeping in mind that we will be starting a church in the area as well. We are Pentecostal and want the church to be diverse...a church that will welcome and include everyone and anyone who might be interested. We are both musicians and are used to contemporary worship. Building community through relationships is of utmost importance!
We are looking possibly at N. Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, or Goose Creek to START a new church and want to live in the same area. We don't want to take away from what anyone else is doing, but rather desire to reach those who are not presently going to church anywhere else. Once we get settled, we'll also be looking for others to partner with us in the effort, which might require leaving their home church.
We too are looking to move to the area. We were advised to look at the Willow Creek website for similar churches. I found a large church called RiverBluff in N.Chas that has that nondenominational, contemporary feel with lots to offer for families who want their church to really be a part of their community. Now, I haven't been there yet, but I listened to some of their sermons online. In fact, they have one from Feb on finding a new church home (since the Chas area has some moving military families).
