Default Charleston/Summerville home builders?

Can anyone recommend reputable, high quality home builders OF CUSTOM HOMES (in other words, someone who will build the house plan we give them, NOT a builder who requires that we choose from a selection of plans) in the greater Charleston area? Needs to be someone who will build on our existing property in Summerville. House is approx. 3400 square feet and must be completed by summer 2008. All recommendations, especially first-hand experiences, are appreciated. Thanks.

We bought an existing home when we moved here, so I do not have first hand experience with a custom builder. Tupperway Construction has built some very nice custom homes in the Summerville area. I have seen their homes in Pine Forest and some of the better neighborhoods around town. They build a nice home. Another custom builder, Schumacher Homes just opened a beautiful showroom on Main Street and has been running local ads. I have not seen any homes built by them though.

Thanks a bunch, scjj. You're about the fifth person who has recommended Tupperway as a builder of a quality home (and also as a builder who's very nice to work with). I'll definitely add them to the shortlist of builders to interview. And I'll check out Schumacher.

Do you by chance know anything about Charleston Classic Homes? I know they built the first EarthCraft House in the Lowcountry, and we're interested in interviewing them as we're planning to be one of the NEXT EarthCraft homes in the Lowcountry!

No, sorry. I don't know anything about them. I just researched Earthcraft and those are some beautiful homes though. What area are you building in? I hope it's near me!

I've done lots of research into the EarthCraft House as well, because we are committed to the sustainable and responsible building of our home. Anyone interested in finding out about this wonderful program, which originated in Atlanta but will take hold in a BIG way in the Lowcountry as the Noisette development continues, can do an internet search on EarthCraft, which is a project of the Southface Organization.

Also, scjj, I sent you a private message regarding your question of where we're building.

Tupperway is very good, as is G-3 Construction. G-3 is George Tuppers (Tupperway)'s son.
