I will DIE of a heart attack if one gets caught in my hair. I am not exaggerating. I think the key is to live in an apt. or house that is new construction. They seem to be a lot more "air tight" so there are less places for the bugses to get in. I am going to a real estate on Friday and I hope to be able to afford a newer townhouse and get the heck out of apt living!

You're right, no matter how clean you are, if they are in the walls or if your neighbors are dirty, you will continue having them - unfortunately.

Back in the early 1960's when my parents were newlyweds one chased her down the hall of their apartment....Flying right at her. lol

breathe....they don't bite, won't hurt you....I know I hate the nasty things too, but its part of living anywhere in the south. Doesn't matter apartment, condo, house, new or old. they'll get in if they want in. Go to the nearest Wally-world or Lowe's and get a gel-type roach repellant. apply around the doors, windows and along the patio/deck at the house/apartment. it keeps them away...I do it twice a year and haven't seen one inside....one dead one on the steps coming up to my apartment last weekend....but he may have been on someones shoe. I know they're nasty disgusting creatures. It doesn't matter if your neighbors are slobs, they are a part of the south.
Now if you have the smaller, nightcrawling nasty roaches, that can be blamed on your neighbors.
Big, winged bugs, aren't going away, but you can keep them outside and away from your place. Your apartment complex should have an exterminator and if he sprays outside that should help, but if you use the gel-repellant as a backup you should be fine.
besides, my hairballs like watching me chase bugs around with the fly-whapper in my hand. it's amusing to them.

Its the unfortunate side of living in Charleston, not much you can do other than the normal spraying.
But on the bright side they are not like other roaches that will take over your house
But you will have to see them from time to time

I had 2 in my house a few months ago (upstate). First I've seen since I've been here 17 years. They are huge ugly and fast. My husband got one but he was gone when I saw the other. It finally landed on the fireplace and I squirted him to death with whatever it was I had under the kitchen counter. I've even used hairspray on bugs (especially bees) in a dire emergency.

glad to know I'm not the only one who uses whatever spray is available. Had attack wasps last year and was out of wasp spray....Suave hairspray works great, spray...they fall...and you stomp on them!!! I also used Pledge on some kind of creature zipping through the living room a few months back...then beat him with the swiffer duster.

Could anyone tell me if these are all over SC? My wife and I are planning on moving to Murrells Inlet next year and I really would like to know in advance. We just came back from SC two weeks ago and noone even brought his topic up. We are having our home built, but I bet this does not prevent them from getting in, does it? Thank you for the help.

That sounds like something I'd do. The sad part, or funny part, is that my dog tries to eat them after I spray them to death. I have to yell at him to not touch until I can get a paper towel to dispose of the bodies.
