I've had terrific experiences with Sabal Homes. They are a local volume builder based in Mt. Pleasant. They are one of the few energy star, earth craft homebuilders in the area. In my opinion, their construction is top notch. Their website is New Homes in Greater Charleston || Sabal Homes

I agree, I like the homes that they build and they seem like they are good quality. Can anyone tell me if their policies are transparent or how their customer service is?

I love the model home they have in Foxbank but there is no way I would live there with the boat manufacture across the street and the landfill on the other side.
I see you live in Crowfield. Did you have them build you a home?

I found Sabal Homes to be transparent and offer really great service. When we were scoping them out we asked to meet with the company owners to learn more about their company and answer some other questions we had related to craftsmanship, etc. Without hesitation they setup an appointment and we spent a good hour or so talking with them. If I were to walk into Centex, DR Horton, etc. and ask to meet their CEO they'd laugh. The fact that Sabal is a local builder (though not custom) was attractive, plus their homes look really nice.
We had them build us a home in Foxbank Plantation, but close to closing the mortgage rates on a conventional 30-yr fixed loan jumped up and would of caused the payments to be higher than what we were comfortable with. So, we ended up having to pass on the home. It is beautiful, but on the other hand we are very happy to have found a home in Crowfield. Great neighbors, large backyard, and great house overall. We're very happy here and look forward to being here for a very long time.

What about Brentwood Homes? They have a couple of communities, Indigo Palms west of Ashley Phosophate and another one south of Summerville at the intersection of Dorchester Road and 17.

I'm afraid I don't have any experiences with them, but I know they too are an earth craft/energy star home builder.

Actually, Jessco is local and when we spoke to them the offered to have us meet the CEO if we wanted. They are a good company.
As far as Brentwood goes, I haven't dealt with them or heard anything bad about them. However, I know someone who used to work for them under another name, then they shut down and opened up as Brentwood. Lets put it like this, I didn't hear some very good things about how operations were conducted under their old name.

Speaking of rates, what is going on with them. We got locked in at 6.375 in November 07 and will all the Fed rate cuts they are still averaging about the same. I did see them as low as 5.5% not too long ago b/c I am teetering with the idea of a REFI "IF" they get down little further. I think todays rate was 6.125. I think its weird that the home rates climb when the Feds knock down the prime?? Maybe I just don't understand how they operate but I wish they would get back to around 5% where I had my last home! Wishful thinking probably...

It's too bad you weren't able to get the house but I'm glad you were able to find one in Crowfield. I also live in Crowfield which is why I was asking if Sabal had built you one here.

Do you all know anything about Beazer homes? My husband and I are interested in a home that was built by them in '05. Thanks!
