Hey all! Kind of a random question. My husband is considering a career change. He is currently in the car industry, by does not want to stay in it long term because of its instability. He was also in construction up until 2009 when the market crashed (up here in NJ). So my question is, we will be moving to Charleston within the year, but he would like to work on another career and so we would like to know what's in demand or considered a good job to have in the Charleston area? He's great with sales, managerial experience, construction, cost of materials and whatnot for flipping/fixing houses. He would want to be making at least $100K per year. Any ideas? Thank you so much!
I could be wrong, but I really doubt $100k here. Charleston jobs are in demand, but wages don't match it. But you still can still live comfortably in the Charleston area, $100k or not. Go to other sites and compare Charleston COL with your area, and that'll give you a good idea.
Yes, he will have a job there before the move. But he wants to start working on a career change now. Taking classes and whatnot, add to his resume. So we're wondering if there's a direction that stands out to anyone living down there. He would love to be a project manager for a construction company, but not sure if there's a lot of open positions usually.
When you find that $100k entry-level job for your husband, please let us know. I can't think of anything in the area that a person can just walk into at that pay without having worked up the ranks, unless he's got a CEO tier pedigree.
Like others have mentioned, Charleston has a small percentage of jobs that would start ANYONE at $100k; with exceptions.
Charleston has become very expensive over the past few years. I'm not sure what your living/paying for currently, but consider looking up Apartments and Zillow for an idea yourself.
You can try long shorenman. Those guys make really good. That's working for the port. If he is crane certified thru the the state some of the big jobs that operates overhead cranes are in the upper 80's low 90's. unless he is not a supervisor of some type then in the construction f eild he will not make 100k. The few jobs that are making that are hard to come by like nucor steel. A lot of guys there in certain departments make 100k working 4 on 4off
