Default Need Opinions on Summerville Neighborhoods...

We just returned from the Charleston area and we think Summerville is our place. We do have some questions about the neighborhoods we like and were hoping someone here might know the answers. We like Ashborough, Legend Oaks and Newington. Does anyone know if there are a lot of kids in these neighborhoods. We have a 5 an 7 year old and would like them to have friends in the neighborhood. Are these neighborhoods in good areas? We went to church on Easter and were surprised when a second offering basket came around asking for donations for the church's security since it had been vandalised several times in last few weeks. I think the name of the church was St Theresa Little Flower or something like that. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

All of those neighborhoods have plenty of kids. All of those neighborhoods are in great areas of Summerville. Any of them would worth it!

The church was shot with paint balls and someone also broke a marble statue. It is a sad pathetic person to want to do something like that at a church. I heard that a new construction neighborhood nearby also had some new homes shot at with paint balls. My guess is some kids that live close by got paint ball guns for Christmas and have nothing better to do. I hope they are caught soon. I live near the area and any of those neighborhoods are safe and kid friendly.

I can tell you with certainty that Legend Oaks has more kids than Ashborough & some what more than Newington. I'm in them everyday, ask away.
SCJJ is right, although I'd rather install cameras with that collected money...

Thanks!

My husband really likes the house sizes and full sized lots in Ashborough and Newington. He wants to tinker on his project car in a side garage with enough space between neighbors that he can wear his grubby clothes and have some time to himself. I think I may like Legend Oaks better. Houses are newer and require less updating. It's also a really beautiful neighborhood...of course they all are. Also, my impression was that there would be more kids too. Nothing like your kids being able to walk to a friend's house. What ages are the kids in these neighborhoods?

St. Theresa is talking about buying cameras. I'm glad it is probably just kids and not anything more serious.

You can't beat the yard sizes in Ashborough (I prefer East) & Newington, and still have a community.

Funny thing about Ashborough. I find that the people have been there long enough to want to downsize as their kids are up & out. Younger couples with kids are moving in to take their place. The homes will need updating, especially the kitchens & master baths, but the lots are great.

So, to answer your question, I see toddlers & late teens, but not a lot of ten year olds.

Hey ya'll

My name is Justin and I am from Kingstree, SC. I am a senior elementary
education major at USC and anticipating on graduating from USC by May
10. I looking forward to move to the Charleston area, and I have a hard
time to decide the best place for me to settle. The places that pop in
my head are Summerville, West Ashley, or Goose Creek. I want to rent
for a few years and the price range that I am willing to pay is between
$500-590 a month. Could you tell me which city or town do you think
that would be a perfect fit for me? I also would like to know any
apartments that is safe for soon to be teachers like myself. I would really
appreciate it!

My mind is telling me to choose Summerville because I could live there
and I could commute to either Charleston County or Berkeley County to
work in a school of my choice, or stay in Dorchester District 2 to work.

What about kids aged 5 or 7? Would my boys have no one to play with in Ashborough or Newington? I grew up in a neighborhood with no kids and I hated it. I want to keep the kids happy and my husband happy which would mean large lots (or at least private lots) with lots of kids around. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking a good place to narrow it down may be to call the HOA & contact the swim/tennis coach. They should give you barometer to see what the number of kids in that age would be.

Legend Oaks for sure, Newington also I think, I'm just not positive about Ashborough. Pine Forest is another, but most of the lots will be too small. How about Coosaw?
