I think Jax is fine. Orlando would probably be better because it’s both inland and plenty of hotels are available (hurricanes tend to put a damper on tourism season). The benefit of Jacksonville is there is both I-95 and I-10 to clear traffic and get you back home sooner.

I think the majority of the posters here are not SC natives. They tend to be overly cautious.

Again, please stay away from the overly dramatic hype of the Weather Channel and some local guys. They make their money selling commercials and fear still sells. People who don't drink anything but Coke all of a sudden have a house full of water.

I was raised in Summerville, and I went through Hugo. Experiencing Hugo is why I will no longer stick around for hurricanes. They are scary.

I finally firmed up reservations in a pet friendly hotel in the Columbia area for the 12th -17th. Hopefully we don't need them but what a relief to know if we do, we have them. I had no idea what days to reserve so hopefully we're covered.

Watched the Panthers tonight to take my mind off the hurricane. That game was stressful.

This is right on, I lived my whole life on the southeast coast. Been through many storms, hurricanes, and i'm like a native here in Charleston. Please stay calm all like he is saying above. Nobody knows where the storm will go as of now. Most turn out to sea, 90% or so turn out to sea. It is too early to know where and if it will even hit our coast. Even if the forecasters are right, it will hit northern SC, southern NC coast. But, nobody knows but GOD right now. Please stay calm and you can wait until mid week to see where it is likely headed.

I know the track is still unknown, but would Columbia make sense, or is that not far enough North/West?

Summerville is far enough inland to keep you out of harm's way of the storm surge.

Honestly at this point, staying here is making more sense. If not, going south in the opposite direction of the hurricane. Remember during the past 3 years, inland SC and NC had a lot of flooding and power outages during these events.

Columbia gets more flooding than summerville, unless you are in a flood prone area. Last year remember or the year before that it was worse there than it was here
