But in the process they'll continue to cause delays which ultimately serve no purpose other than increasing the cost. The original environmental impact studies have expired and need to be redone $$$.
When the big one does finally hit Charleston, this road will only be needed to get off the islands. All who have built unwisely over the past decades will quickly realize their “follyâ€. Very few will have anything to return to and the road will be over capacity for decades until the next generation of foolish “build-your-house-upon-the-sand-ers†repopulates. All’s well and good with this but please stop using my tax dollars to subsidize those foolish enough to build their house upon the sand. Those in the Holy City surely remember that Bible story and how it ends...
??? The people building in the most recent decades have had to build to more stringent codes and with at least a semblance of site regulations. Homes in the middle of Johns Island will fare no worse than those off Bees Ferry in WA. The people who will take it with both barrels are the folks in older/existing homes that will not withstand winds and the folks in none raised homes/lower areas/doughnuts that flood during or after the storm.
There is already adequate capacity to use this road. It will never be a 'bridge to nowhere' like the folks in Alaska tried to fund.
And said storm will do nothing to curb growth. Charleston did not truly explode in population until the years following Hugo. Prior to that it was a steady stream.
Any new news on this? Our daughter and SIL have decided to come back to the Charleston where they met in school. We are excited to suggest some areas for them to look at.Is the 526 extension really a done deal? From what we see area traffic is getting worse by the month, not sure if anything can really help.
