Default Hello Hunters? What's Chas like for hunting?

My husband is a hunter here in NH. We are curious what hunting is like in the area? How far from Summerville are there any good hunting areas? What is the whitetail hunting like?

Hunting is mostly done on private land or with a hunting club. My son goes to Greeleyville, SC which is about an hour away to hunt on private land and got his first deer last year. Nothing this year though. Right now it is turkey season.

Deer Season opens August 15th and ends January 1st. In other topics here, you can find information on how the Paper Companies (among others) are selling off large tracts of land in the Charleston area. Not only is this promoting more development in areas once considered remote, it is also reducing the hunting areas. Companies such as MeadWestvaco have leased their large timberland areas to hunting groups for years. If you don't know someone with a good chunk of property in an area with no restrictions on the discharge of firearms, then you have to join one of these groups/clubs. The other alternative is the "Government Woods", which can be the National Forest or the Wildlife Management Areas handled by the US Forest Service that are open periodically for controlled hunting, depending on what's in season..
