R U Moving to "the south"?
Recently I moved to FL after 25 yrs in NC and am now getting ready to return. My reason? This ain't the south! FL is full of northerners who hated the weather and overly hyped real estate and taxes. So they moved here, flooding this state to the point that real estate is ridiculously overpriced and almost unobtainable. Now, I see that people have had enough of FL and have decided to overflow NC and SC. Great, more impatient, rude, obnoxious northerners who will constantly be saying "we had this up north" and "you people are so slow".
I have gotten so accustomed to the sheer rudeness of the people here in FL that when I go home to visit, I'm actually touched by any act of kindness shown to me! PLEASE northern, western, and Canadian neighbors....STAY AWAY! Let us have this little bit of quaintness, calmness, politeness, and friendliness that's left in this country. Move to the Midwest, or Texas. Texas is big enough to handle all of you. As a matter of fact, my uncle who lives there is already complaining about the "da*n northerners". One writer stated she "was shocked that there are no buses for private school children". Oh brother!! I'm so sorry we is backward and dumb not smart like all use peepl up thar in the narth.

You lump all "northerners" into one group(rude, unfriendly, obnoxious,)which really isn't fair. It's as bad as calling southerners "slow" or "lazy",also insulting. Having lived on both sides of the Mason-dixon,and as someone who has family from both sides of the country, you shouldn't judge all people the same as a few a**h**** you have encountered. I am hoping to move to NC or SC and I am not obnoxious, rich, rude or disrespectful.
Many people move to the south because there is more work there and opportunity and as Americans we all have a right to live where we want! It's not as though we're illegal aliens. My uncles and grandfather, and father, served in WWII, Korea, and they fought for ALL Americans! Also I have lots of relatives in Texas (3 generations there) and they would never classify all "northerners" as you and your family have.

You're right Appalachiangirl it is unfair to assume all northerners are rude. obnoxious and insulting. My husband and I are from New England and we will be moving to South Carolina within the next year, and I don't want to change anything about the South when we move there. That's what makes it such a special place. I have lived in Mississippi before so I know the South very well and prefer it over the north, and like you said we are ALL Americans and we have the freedom to live where we want- if we lose that choice- it is no longer America. One little story I can tell you is that when my husband and I went to buy land 3 years ago in North Carolina, the southern gentleman who owned the land heard our accent and asked us where we were from and when we told him New England he looked us right in the eye and said- "the land's not for sale any more- and as he walked away he said "Damn Yankees"
I was shocked by the whole experience and even a little afraid. I felt like I was in another country and all of a sudden felt so upset. We almost changed our minds about moving south, but one ignorant person shouldn't stereotype a whole area or people. I still think the south has some of the most hospitable and kind people, but it took me three years to get over that frightening incident.

As a military wife, I've lived all over the U.S. South Florida is by far the rudest place I've ever lived. When I first moved to SC, it was a shock at how polite and nice people are. One exception, the lady at the drug store who said that newcomers "just aren't southern". She sounded like something out of the movies. I moved here to be closer to my kids and won't leave until they do, like it or not.

It's amazing how some people would rather cling to their predjudices (against Southerners,Northerners, blacks, asians, etc) than to get to know the people individually. Guess it would upset their world view too much!

Why do people always trot out this lame argument? I've lived in the South my entire life and have never heard anyone say these things. Some of my co-workers are from Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and the only thing I've ever heard them say that they "had up north" was snow and long winters. They don't miss that at all.

We all have our prejudices. The people here from all over the US and Canada are delightful. The southerners too. I think you get what you put out there you know!!!!

Many people who are native --either to the south or the USA (yes I'm a new citizen of the USA -- from Canada originally) take great offense to anyone who make make a criticism of something in their new home. It isn't rude -- it's a comment. If I say to you the banking system is better in Canada...that's not rude -- it's my opinion. BUT I know many people who would respond to me -- If you don't like it leave. They get all defenisve and rude. Imagine that!

I think it is rude to say - the banking system is better in Canada. I think it would be more prudent to say, "our banking system is different in Canada, in that we have xxxxxxx, and I really like that system." It's all in how you word it, and it comes down to having good manners.
