Default Bicycle commute

Our family is moving to North Charleston this summer, and I will be teaching downtown. At the risk of being laughed off the page, is it possible to commute by bicycle between Whitehall and the peninsula without becoming a hood ornament?

In short, no. You'd have to come down Dorchester Rd or Ashley Phosphate to 526/26 or Rivers/Meeting. None of those routes bodes well for a bicycle.
